Archive for the ‘Celebration Ideas’ Category

Wahaha, I haven’t posted in a while because I was in such a lazy slump in the past two weeks. I still am, but at least I pulled myself to do it, since this is waaaay overdue. xP
.

Anyways, the topic of the day is: what how my boyfriend and I celebrated his 22nd birthday!
.

Just as the Valentine’s Day this year was our first together, this is the first time I’m celebrating his birthday, hence why I decided to make it extra special; so that he’d always remember it. =D
.

Though I’m extremely overdue with this… because his birthday was on 5th March. xD
.

A Mini Treasure Hunt Before the Actual Celebration!
.

The treasure hunt cards
.

Here’s what I did before the actual celebration: I made the cards using some leftover paper stuff from my Valentine’s Day card for him (see here for the full story!). I made 13 cards; 12 for a month of happiness for him (until next year!), and a bonus card for both our happiness together!
.

The rule is: he has to find all 12 cards (the 13th is optional), where each card has one keyword that will tell him where his present is, and he has to find them before his birthday!
.

And how did I hide them?
.

Fridays are our “going out days”, where he picks me up after his class and after my work and we’ll go and have dinner and spend time together. So on the Friday before his birthday (29 February), as he was driving back to my place after dinner, I asked him to make a quick stop to his apartment unit, but I didn’t tell him why. Puzzled, he agreed after some slight persuasion.
.

Then I told him to occupy himself with his comp while I lock myself in his room to hide those things, which made him feel even more puzzled. Then when I’m done in his room, I got him occupied with something else and (somehow, with him just a few steps from me!) managed to hide the remaining four cards around his computer area in the living room. xD
.

Here’s the list of where I hid them:

Card # and Location

Keyword

1. Window pane

2. Laundry basket

3. Top corner of door

4. Under pillow

5. Keys basket

6. Clothes drawer

7. Water cooler

8. School bag

9. Shoe

10. Under keyboard

11. CD drawer

12. Comp chair

xP

In the end he did find all of them… on the morning of his birthday itself. xD
.

Each card, other than the keyword, has a chat bubble that indicates its location. For example, card #1 is stuck on his window pane (and across his window outside is a construction site), so the message on it is: “Help! I’m collecting dust out here… T_T” Card #9 is in his shoe, so the message on it is: “Great, now I’m a sock! >=O”
.

So you can pretty much imagine what messages the other cards have. =D

The Actual Celebration!
.

On the night of his birthday (after my work), we went out for dinner with his gang of friends (we normally celebrate birthdays together!). The place we went to was sorta like a really big and commercialised hawker food centre; it’s really big and has wooden tables and stuff to imitate Hawaiian style! At least, I think it does… O_o
.

We’ve been there a few times, and we went there again, but this time round, we managed to occupy one of the “VIP” tables, which is a table in a partially enclosed area made of 3 wooden walls and a roof. But since there were not many people occupying them anyway, we got those tables at no extra cost at all! Pretty high-classed for us. xP
.

Anyways, I got him an ice cream cake, as opposed to getting a usual sponge cake or something. It’s his request anyway (who on earth would miss “ICE CREAM CAKE! ICE CREAM CAKE!!!” in the face? xD) so I picked the cake up after work (the building next to my office is a shopping centre, so it’s not a problem for me) and asked for extra dry ice so it’d last at least three hours before it melts. I even brought some disposable party plates and spoons from my house so that we could enjoy the cake nicely! =D
.

Here’s a picture of the cake! (Name blurred out for privacy):

The ice cream cake and dry ice!

Text: “Happy Birthday (name)!”

.
Looks delicious, isn’t it? It’s my first time eating ice cream cake, actually, so it’s a pretty good experience for me too! =D
.

Of course, being the easily-excitable bunch they all were (especially with itchy hands!), they all just had to play with the remaining dry ice… which they put into leftover soup and such to form a lot of cold mist. xD
.

It was a pretty fun outing for me, and I bet it is for my boyfriend too~
.

After the Actual Celebration: His Present
.

Well, after all the excitement, my boyfriend and I went over to my house after dropping the others back (he’s the designated chauffeur xP). Of course, he’ll need to get to my room because his present’s there, as stated in my cards!
.

So, bringing along his presents received from his friends, we headed to my room. I gave him his cards and presents (which I made him search for while I was changing in the bathroom xD). Then I let him search for the bonus card… which he promptly found stuck on my back. xP
.

Here’s the card I gave him:

The birthday cards

The bigger card is the actual birthday card.
The smaller card is the bonus card from the treasure hunt.
.

Sad to say that this time, I didn’t hand-make the cards… but after all the plan I devised, like the treasure hunt, and after the Valentine’s Day card, I don’t think I’d have the energy or creativity to think of a new design for a birthday card, anyway. o_o
.

Here’s the present I gave him:

The present with a model!

.
That’s my cat, actually, I made her pose as a model so that I could portray the size of the present… xD
.

The so-called paper bag I made using two pieces of wrapping paper (I wish I got three, actually, it was really hard to wrap it O_o) contains his present, which is a black sports bag from Nike (I bet you recognise the brand!) that resembles a schoolbag/backpack. My original plan was not to get him stuff from Nike, instead I was actually supposed to get the best looking bag (in my opinion). xP
.

The reason why I got him this was because I wanted him to feel like a secondary school kid again (isn’t that fun? =D) and because his old bag is actually from a bank that his father used to work at. So I wanted him to have a feel of having his own bag! And his old bag squeaks anyway. Seriously!
.

That, and the fact that I know most guys prefer practical presents. =D
.

And as for what his friends gave him… all I can say is that they’re certainly treating him like an adult. xD
.

It was a great day~!

Homemade card and box

.
Okay, okay, I know I’m a little late to be posting this, since Valentine’s was two weeks ago (and it’s March already!). But you have to remember that I just opened this blog last week, and I have to get together all my pictures for this post. xP
.

Anyways, as for what I did this Valentine’s Day, I went all out to make a card and box (see picture!) all on my own! After all, I like making stuff (when I have the mood), and it was my first Valentine with my boyfriend, so wouldn’t that be special? =D
.

(Though my mother mentioned I’m spoiling him when I showed her my card. xP)
.

Photo Frame-style Card
(my own design!)
.

Photo Frame-style Card (Front)This is how the front of the card looks like. It’s supposed to be a photo frame-style card, with a flower in the “slot” of the photo frame. Pretty elaborate, isn’t it? xP
.

That pressed rose in the photo frame “slot” holds a very special meaning in my heart, because this is the sole “survivor” of the banquet of a dozen pink roses that my boyfriend gave last year when he professed. Pink roses look much better than red, in my opinion. =D
.

(First time pressing and drying it, so don’t mind how it looks a little fugly!)
.

I was going to use the flower to keep in some sort of a scrapbook or something, but I thought, “Hey, I’ve got a better idea! Use it for Valentine’s Day!” So technically, I gave him a flower for Valentine’s Day. xP

Photo frame-style card (exterior)

Exterior of the card.
Text on the front:
Happy Valentine’s Day
Text at the back:
Copywrite (insert nickname) ©2008
.

Photo frame-style card (interior)

Interior of the card.

Text on the upper right:
A flower may wither, but the memory it brings is eternal.
.

General info on the card:

  • There are actually two parts to the card itself.
    .
  • The front (the “frame”) is a box (measurements: length 14cm, width 20cm, depth about 3mm) with its insides padded with chip boards (at least, that’s what the paper storekeeper said…).
    .
  • The back (the part that you write on the inside) is just a piece of paper (measurements: length 28cm, width 20cm) folded into half with one side stuck onto the back of the “frame”.
    .
  • Then decorate it however you want!
    .

Tips on decorating your card:

  • Anything can be used to decorate your card! I used ribbons, wrapping paper and inexpensive stickers (see those heart shape decorations all over the card? =D) on top of the actual paper that I used to make the card!
    .
  • Google is your best friend for ideas. xP
    .

Hopefully you liked the card I made~
(He loved it. xP)
.

Homemade Heart-shaped Box
(also my design, but with help!)
.

Plastic heart-shaped box

.
As much as I’d like to admit I did this all on my own, actually I didn’t. I went to Uncle Google to look for printable patterns that I can cut and paste. xP
.

Here’s the site I got the steps from!
.

If you noticed, actually my design is different from that of the site. That’s because instead of paper, I used plastic. Yes, I used plastic! Not the kind of plastic you use to wrap books with, it’s the plastic that you use for book binding (in front of the cover). I used it because I had… extra pieces. xP
.

To cover the ugly parts where the side of the box is glued onto the base (it’s transparent, after all!), I glued some heart-shaped paper onto those areas using the same red paper I used for the card.
.

Then I decorated the top with stickers so I’d know which side is the top. xD
.

While stuffing chocolate into the box is the norm, actually I put in strawberry-flavoured marshmallows instead, because while he likes chocolate (sometimes), he can’t eat too many of them. If I put chocolates, he’d be forced to finish them and he’d have an aversion to chocolates for a long time! O_O
.

So I put marshmallows, so it’s not 100% traditional~
.

But as the saying goes in the anime Cooking Master Boy, “Yang Spring Restaurant’s tradition is to break the tradition!” To be creative and not stuck to the same thing over and over!
.

Heck, I’m just trying to sound cool here. xP
.

What I got for Valentine’s Day!
.

Photo frame with love poem

The front of the photo frame.

The text in the frame:

You are the sparkle in my life
With you my world’s complete
From the first time that I saw you
I know our hearts would meet

I’ll always be beside you
And love you more each day
You are my one true satellite
And cherished you will stay
.

Nyaaaaa~!!
.

I go mad when I read it, I tell you. xP
.

If you noticed the slightly-out-of-place silver writing just below the “I love you” phrase, that’s because I asked him to sign there! (Though the pen was too thick in the en.d xP)
.

Why? Because I’d feel like I’ve gotten a celebrity’s autographed CD or something, and that says a lot because never before in my life I’d want something like that!
.

(I don’t buy CDs, by the way, I download music. =D)
.

And you can probably see my reflection in the frame. xP
.

.
Whoops, that’s a long post! I just go on and on and on when I’ve something I feel passionate about~
.
Well, hopefully you’ve got some ideas for future Valentine’s Day after reading this post… if you’re still here. xP.
